Tuesday 10-30: Why Be Average?

OK, so now you know how to do one type of formula: how to add up a column of numbers. Here is how you find the average of a group of numbers:

A) click in cell F5 -- its the one underneath the letter F and in the same row as the number 5. Why are we clicking here? To prove that IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU TYPE IN THE FORMULA, it only matters which numbers you click on

B) Type in the phrase "Average amount paid" then click to the right of that cell. Now you are in cell "G5"

D) just like last time, you type in an equal sign first

E) then you type in the word AVERAGE, plus a (

E) the whole thing looks like this --> =AVERAGE(

F) Then, just like last time, you click in the top number in that column of money, then hold down the SHIFT key, then click the bottom number

G) Then hit the ENTER button on the keyboard. Presto! you've found the average amount of money paid!

cheers,
Mr. L
