Monday 01-07-2013 : special effect IFRAME part two

Remember when I said that later on the "ID" of your iframe would be important? Well, its now "later on". Here is how you will make use of it

Get into the code of one of your DIVs that you have made into a link and change it from looking like this:

to looking something like this:

SAVE your code, REFRESH your browser, and then click on that DIV. It should load the new website, not into the whole browser window, but just into that iFrame.

If that works, then by all means, switch over all your other DIVs to do the same

cheers,
Mr. L

PS Once you have completed this special effect, you are free to work on your projects for the remainder of the class time

Monday 01-07-2013 : special effect IFRAME part one

Greetings and welcome back from your weekend!

Before you begin working on your website projects, I would like to take this opportunity to present to you a special effect which you can use in development of your website projects: an IFRAME. For the purposes of what we're doing here, lets use that "DIV" page you created before the vacation. So let's get started by opening that up in TextEdit

You will add a new element to this page, an "IFRAME". An iFrame is like a "picture within a picture on your webpage... it can display another webpage inside yours. So  by golly, let's try that right now!

Here is what you type in:

Notice that the iFrame has a "src" file, which in this case is the ThinkGeek website. This is what is loaded into the iframe, much like a picture is loaded into an "img" container

Your iframe also has an "id" which will be important later on...you'll see

Naturally, you can choose your own website to load in it, and you can re-position it anywhere on the main DIV webpage.. you can also resize it as well

cheers,
Mr. L

wednesday 01-02-2013: welcome back!

And take that, Mayans... my new calendar is by Dr. Seuss!

Let us begin where we left off: I had shown you a whole boatload of techniques in website design, and I had started you off on a website project; ie, you needed to pick a topic and start building a website around that topic. So with that in mind, here's a list of MINIMUM requirements for your website projects:

A) It must have at least nine webpages, including a page to start the website
B) Each webpage must have either a hexadecimal background color, or a background picture
C) Each webpage must have a title that has to do with the content of that page
D) Each webpage must have a link back to the main page named after yourself, except for the main page, which must have a column of links to all the other pages
E) Your website must include a total of fifteen SCHOOL APPROPRIATE images on it
F) Your site needs to have at least three links to some other website
G) Your site needs to include at least one image link, and one link that pops up a webpage in a new window
H) Your site needs to include at least one list – you pick which kind
I) Your site must be about a SCHOOL APPROPRIATE TOPIC; all material on your website must be school appropriate as well.
J) Your site will also include at least five "special effect" scripts of one kind or another -- we will be looking at these in the days to come
K) Your site --including ALL files-- must be uploaded to a folder called "first website" that you create on your Box.com account
L) I will also judge on the level of creativity and effort put into your work

Cheers,
Mr. L
